Barkot, Uttarkashi — Even after a week, the Yamunotri Highway remains blocked near Silai Band and Ojri, leaving the sacred route quiet and disconnected. Authorities are working hard to restore the road, but daily life for locals and pilgrims has turned challenging.
Over 850 pilgrims were stranded after last Saturday’s cloudburst and landslide cut off the route. While pedestrian access was allowed earlier this week, unstable weather continues to halt full travel to Yamunotri Dham.
So far:
35 remaining pilgrims were safely rescued on foot Thursday and sent to Barkot.
Earlier, 500–700 pilgrims were escorted down on Tuesday, and 250 more on Wednesday.
Many still remain in the area due to their private vehicles, but arrangements have been made for their stay.
📍 Repair work is underway, but the highway's full restoration remains uncertain. Locals are struggling to manage daily tasks due to the isolation.
