Tempo Traveller Falls Into Alaknanda on Rishikesh-Badrinath Highway, 2 Dead, 10 Missing, 8 Injured

Rudraprayag, June 26, 2025 — A tempo traveller carrying 19 people, including the driver, plunged into the Alaknanda River near Gholtir on the Rishikesh-Badrinath highway on Thursday morning.


🚨 Who Were Onboard:


  • 17 of the passengers were from the same family, residents of Udaipur, Rajasthan, on a Char Dham Yatra.

  • The group had completed Kedarnath darshan and were heading towards Badrinath when the accident happened.


🕢 When & Where: The accident occurred around 7:30 AM near Gholtir village, in Rudraprayag district.


💥 Accident Details:


  • Two people have died, including a woman.

  • Eight people are injured, including three women and two children.

  • Ten people remain missing, feared swept away by the river’s strong current.

  • Some victims were thrown out of the vehicle during the fall and rescued in critical condition.

  • One body was recovered downstream near Shivpuri.


🛟 Rescue Operations:


  • Teams from SDRF, police, and district administration are conducting intensive rescue and search operations.

  • Three critically injured people were airlifted for emergency treatment.

  • The flow of the river and the difficult terrain are making the rescue effort challenging.

Rajwar confirmed the casualty figures.Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed deep sorrow and said that rescue efforts are underway at war footing. He is in constant touch with local officials.
