Chamoli Rockfall: Family Escapes as Boulder Crashes Through Roof, Badrinath Highway to Shut Temporarily

Heavy rains in Uttarakhand continue to wreak havoc. In Chamoli district’s Kanakhul Malla (Kapiri Patti), a massive boulder came crashing down onto a house roof, causing severe damage inside and out. Fortunately, the Pushkar Singh Bisht family managed to escape in time, avoiding any casualties.
Meanwhile, landslides have blocked the Badrinath Highway near Umatta, leaving commuters stranded. Authorities have rerouted traffic via Devtauli-Siwai, and efforts to clear the debris are in full swing.
🚧 Important Travel Update:To ensure the safety of pilgrims and travelers, the Badrinath Highway will remain temporarily closed today from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM. Two-wheelers will be diverted via Karnprayag–Siwai–Kaleshwar.
Additionally:
Over 5,000 people are affected due to damage in the Karnprayag water supply line, which is currently under repair.
Local police and SDRF teams are deployed at critical points.
